WAR WEARY

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

Too many wars have come and gone in this eden
Some have ceased yet others rage ceaseless embers
Even the carabaos wonder when they’d end at last
As eagles say “we see no end to them from atop”

Fed up are folks and erudite ones to the sporty wars
Already in hell of poverty their hells upped
All the more like grinder tools smouldering bones
They wait for simple peace without messiahs

Weary am I too for all those bombs & gun fires
Add now the terrorists’ swaths of destruction anew
I could only sit and pray for the ascension moment
Though that sounds silly like pepperoni & chili

GREENS AND SMOG CO-EXIST

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

Calming on a famed bar-resto
In the equally famed Eagle’s Nest of Antipolo
Sippin’ a glass of iced tea to cool
My focals brooked no quarters to feast
On the verdance and panoramic vista
Spread around hills from where I seated
To my back a wall of rock nesting
Another famed restaurant in noble state

Twas a day so clear of clouds a-near
But there afar below the flatlands
O’ Marikina, Manila, Makati & metro spaces
Hover dark malignant shrouds of smog
Blanketing the big city as endowment from Hades
Foreboding deaths unto millions of folks
Whose lungs breath toxic air as free trade

Luck it is that lush surround is retained
Neutralizing Hades’ grave emissions a-clear
And great it is that this city I live anew
Perches Divine Mother as nature’s nurturer
A true shelter indeed from all maelstroms

JESUITS’ PLAGIARISTS

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

In the name of the Father (Jesuit Order)
Of the Son (students/constituencies)
And of the Holy Ghost (Jesuit fascism)
Amen.

If an alumnus Son is found to plagiarize
Kilometric lines of verbiage from famed denizens
Isn’t this a natural offshoot of the granite fact
That Father begets Son in his own image?
As any fascistic Father begets fascistic Sons
Likewise do plagiarizing Fathers
Beget plagiarizing Sons?

Can Jesuit schools indeed stand up as high esteemed
As atheneums of antiquity in the glory that was Greece?
Or it is more a mask that predatory pretenders don
Concealing thus the commissions of evil abominations
For weren’t the Jesuits those demonic assassins
Come to slaughter?
Those who depart from papal influence
Slayed by their idiotic blunder?

How many more will Jesuits subtly burn
To Hell those Herds of studes who to them turn
For sublime learning like famed Dr. Rizal?
How many more burnt at stake
In Jesuitical altars of ultimate power?

JUSTICE

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

Everyday is a mortal tablet
upon which is inscribed the expectation
of all
that kings and princes
must exude
wisdom and justice

But justice is facilely broken off
It is a cheap jar bought from
an obscure bazaar
on planet Earth
broken
by kings and princes

TWILIGHT

TWILIGHT

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

I fathom not what twilight brings
Beneath the last vestiges of the sun beams
Beneath is the labyrinthine sky
The cosmic basket of all emotions

Twilight is the crucible of moods
Of all sorts, a puzzle it is
To presage which one is first a-floated
Within one’s self,
But to the poet

Only one mood is certain
Only one, the knowledge of which
The poet possesses alone as private estate
‘tis the estate that commands pen again
To fill up blank pages with sensical words
And words even beyond the sensical

Beyond
Twilight’s brimmed expectations

ON MUSIC

ON MUSIC

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

That I sing and make music
Brings joy and solitude to the psyche
Praise be to my wise grandfather
Of mathematical and musical genius made
From whom my bard’s mind was crafted.

Music is the holiest mover
It combines all powers of gods
From Olympus and all heavens
It shakes and rattles souls the most.

Music is certainly mathematics
Of metrics and calculus built
For which its maker anticipates
Astride rhythm and rhyme
The sonic bursts from orals and instruments.

Calculated is the world too
In music, a most moved audience
By booming sonics of its trade.

FEW HAVE HEART FOR THE OVERSEAS FILIPINO

FEW HAVE HEART FOR THE OVERSEAS FILIPINO

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

Few have heart for the out-migrant
Few recognize the grinding hardships faced
In strange lands
Few sympathize yet so many beg
For the migrant’s gift when home
S/he comes –the rich person
Overnight. Overnight is saved money
Sucked too by bloodsucking kins
And neighbors and all.

Never mind the possible abuses
Or racist exploitations encountered
The compatriots surely have heart
When the migrant gives, when
And only when wine flows
And songs are sung upon arrival, when
Home is filled up by multitudes
Home is fiesta’s venue everyday!

The migrant’s absence makes people
Caricature him/her and kins
As a malignant felon.

No, nobody sympathizes with the migrant
Just wait till s/he arrives, when
The sky showers with Imeldific graces
Happy are kins and friends
Happy is government too
Happy is the merchant
Happy is everyone but
The migrant.

A SUM OF PARASITES

A SUM OF PARASITES

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

To serious thinkers an X unknown
is the sum of financial technocrats
and foreign debtors

but to the paupered lot
the sum means
more tasty diets consisting
of liver flukes
of ascaris
of tuberculosis
of kwashiorkor
of bronchopneumonia
of pinworms
of schistosomiasis

A sum of parasites
is always equal to parasites
and nothing less

THE GUERILLA

THE GUERILLA

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

Fine, fine is the guerilla
knows s/he that the hinterland
is an infernal zone
where the enemy’s textbook lessons
seem like lost dots and dazed calculi
in a wildly vast encyclopedia

Fine, fine is the guerilla
s/he the master of warfare’s laws
of cunny maneuvers
amid tricky foliages and fields

The guerilla
Just like culture heroes
Is a sung hero

OF ARTIST AND DUSK

OF ARTIST AND DUSK

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

O! Eager artist!
Benign sib of the dusk
Vessel of the spirit of imageries

The dusk—
Is this your fraternal twin
Who reminds you always
Of your noble mission?

You are a speaker
And audio system fused
As one
Before the world

Your absence to many means
A worldless world, lifeless life

The dusk always reminds you
That salads of ideas are
Concocting
In your mind
Waiting to be revealed

WHEN DEMOCRACY COMES

By: Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

Land of ours! You’re bent on reminding

Us anew: that our Sentinels again

Will rob us clear of our well-earned

Civil rights and arrogate for themselves

All powers of government.

So what? Yes, so what?

Will democracy become so weary

As to naively recline upon coal embers

That are our Sentinels’ hearts?

Has democracy anyway flowered

Into full bloom in your soil as to assure

Your history’s place in the citadels

Of human grandeur?

Land of ours! Relay these utterances

To the vanguards of treachery:

Democracy is verily like a fruit

That has ripened in the beings

Of the workingmen in shops and farms:

A dazzling show twill manifest

As it finally blooms to maturity

And edifices of fascistic greed twill

Burn down to remain as ashes forever

A signal to all humanity of your

Patriots’ repute as victors and

You: a bastion of freedom bearers.

JUAN’S NIGHTMARE

Erle Frayne Argonza y Delago

Sleeping while inner rage brews

Inside one’s cognitive vat does not make

A sleep the fulfillment of a day’s toil.

Not for Juan the unlettered and dispossessed

Whose wretchedness is a correlate of wealth

Amassed by his other brothers whose

Purses and stocks do bulge ad infinitum.

Not for Juan. Reserved inner rage

Sooner unfolds into a thousand nightmares:

Spoiled is the timeless joy of dream’s utopia.
